Oct 20, 2019 · My aged Netgear NAS was primed and ready for a relaxing retirement, so I pursued a befitting upgrade. I briefly considered an out-of-the-box NAS offering from Qnap or Synology, but reconsidered after considering the high price paired with the wimpy CPU & RAM specs. After considerable consideration I decided to build my own. After recently upgrading to OS X 10.11.5, I noticed some SMB file transfers were taking a lot longer than usual. Instead of the normal 100MB/sec transfer speeds I typically see between my Macbook Pro and my Synology NAS on a gigabit (wired) network, I was seeing something closer to 30MB/sec. Oct 08, 2019 · I can access the Windows 10 SMB shares from my Mac, but not the router's NAS share. I do know from experience with the Windows 10 PC accessing the NAS share, that SMB version 1.0 access has to be enabled from the client in order to work with my NAS share, which I think uses plain-text passwords, which is not enabled by default in the /etc/nsmb mac ip address 192.168.0.110 and nas 192.168.0.193 are different OS X firewall is off. The NAS time machine should appear then you'll be able to select which volume on that time machine you want to restore. It took about an hour for me to complete (100GB restore via gigabit Ethernet). Worked like a charm. The next time OSX booted, everything was 100% intact..apps, users, and all.
